Community Children Eye Program(CCEP) – Integration of eye screening for children below 5 years of age during national immunization program in Nepal. (Compulsory eye screening along with vaccine)
Eye Screening after birth of child is very crucial to prevent within few months to years of child to prevent childhood blindness but this system of childhood eye screening does not exist in Nepal.
A sustainable low-cost program that utilizes maximum of locally available resources design to prevent childhood eye morbidity and mortality including childhood blindness, low vision and child death due to eye cancers.
Global Eye Hospital together with Founder Dr Ben Limbu envision a holistic eye screening system for children below 5 years which is named as CCEP. Following are important steps in the program:

We have started the program by conducting “National workshop for development of curriculum for the CCEP” in year 2021 and the Program in now implemented in Itahari sub metropolitan municipality after training immunization health care provider of the area as CCEP as compulsory integrated part of immunization. The program is effective with providing more than 14000 children eye screening every year since 2022. Of which estimated 140-150 children referral and 30% of children needing urgent medical management to prevent childhood blindness among referred children.
